We did Kumon for a bit, but found a great college student to tutor & my kids really thrive with the 1:1 time. We stopped at the beginning of the school year to allow for more music & sports practices. My kids are 10 & 12 now and I feel like they may be aging out of Kumon... thoughts?
I really appreciate this honest and nuanced (in the way that life is nuanced and we’re just all trying find what works for us) look at kumon! My toddler is nowhere near the right age for it yet, but my husband and I have been thinking about: how easy it would be to slip into these keeping-up-with-the-jones’-kids mentality with youth sports, tutoring, extracurriculars. We’d like to hold true to the way we want to parent and build our lives as a family, which I think can get hard if everyone around you is doing A Thing, and you begin to wonder if you’re doing a disservice to your kid if you don’t also do it???
Anyway, repeating again after this long ramble: appreciate your honest thoughts!
