Our (belated) May library haul, with links. Favorites starred.
Picture Books
*This Way, Charlie (Carson Levis) - heartwarming story about friends with different abilities (animals) learning to help each other
Marker (Anna Kang) - Appears to be a series and this book is focused on a perfectionist’s struggles. Similar to “The Day My Crayons…” series but a bit more nuanced to emotional development.
*Secret Tree Fort (Brianne Farley) - v cute siblings book. (Amazon)
A Fox Found a Box (Ged Adamson) - short read on finding technology but then coming back to nature (Amazon)
Easy Reader / I Can Read
Elephant and Piggie, Should I Share My Ice Cream? (I don’t personally like the big volume versions because they’re too big for the kids to hold on their own and feel independence reading).
My Weird School (I think it’s possible to jump straight to the transitional chapter books instead of reading the easy reader versions). Transitional Chapter Books:
*The Princess in Black, series #1 (Easy read with short chapters. Topic is so-so, but they picked this out themselves and do not deny books when they do so unless completely age inappropriate)
My Weird School (Ms. Kormel is not Normal) — We’ve picked 2-3 books every visit and each one is enjoyable and read multiple times during the rental period. It may be word purchasing a set of 1-12.
Magic Animal Friends, series #2 (Currently a family read, very similar to the Rainbow Fairies series where there is a designated “bad guy” aka witch and working together with animals to "thwart” the witch and her henchman (Boggits). Not a personal favorite but the girls enjoy.
*Ivy and Bean, series #9 and #11 (both 5yo and 8yo enjoy, we have the boxed sets up to book 8.
*The Boxcar Children, #11 (ready by 8yo, not 5yo) (Amazon)
Children’s Books
*Ramona the Pest - 8 yo second time reading and she has so many ‘favorite’ parts that it’s been fun to read and share with the 5 yo. Highly recommend over and over. (Amazon)
*Baby Sitter’s Club - Claudia’s Bad Joke - Claudia breaks a bone (My 8 yo apparently has a slight obsession about broken bones)
Baby Sitter’s Club - The Truth About Stacey - Not my preferred age appropriate content for my 5 yo but she chose and read it.
Hope to have June up sooner than this May one, so stayed tuned!
My go to book shop is McCoy Kids Books, and there is a discount using my link. If it’s linked, I try to find it on Bookshop.org (which also sources from local book stores). As a last resort, I might show the Amazon just for ease. As always, first check your local library!
