Somebody recently asked me how I go to the library without being overwhelmed. In short, I usually pre-research books or at least authors. I would also recommend can put books on hold ahead of time so they’re ready for pick up. I’ll also browse the return cart just to see what other people are checking out. Truly, I think this could be dedicated to its own blurb, so I’ve started writing a fuller newsletter on the art of library going. Stay tuned.
Now, onto our June library haul, with links. Favorites starred.
Picture Books (only our absolute favorites are starred but I have to say this entire haul was great).
*Patchwork (Matt de la Pena) - I cried reading this and loved it, but the girls liked it the least.
*Albert’s Tree (Jenni Desmond) - This was our kids’ favorite picture book.
The Moon Keeper (Zosienka) - We all really enjoyed this one.
*The Night Library (David Zeltser) - Even dad enjoyed this one
Amy Wu and the Ribbon Dance (Kat Zhang) - She has other books in a similar series and this might be my least favorite one. We have and love Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon book.
Kate, Who Tamed the Wind (Liz Garton Scanlon) - Always enjoy a book to discuss how to care more for this world
Once Upon a Book (Grace Lin) - Another favorite author. Really enjoyed this one. It’s a bit similar storyline to our favorite Story of Orchestra Book: Carnival of the Animals, and if I could only choose one book of this type, I would choose the Story of Orchestra.
Transitional Chapter Books
*My Weird School - We picked up Mr. Klutz is Nutz, Ms. Hannas is Bananas, and Mrs. Roopy is Loopy. (Easy reads and always enjoyable)
*Magic Animal Friends, Special Edition Poppy
Magic Treehouse #14 - The Dragon King
Children’s Books
*Ramona Forever (Beverly Cleary) - Working our way through the set.
Amelia Bedelia Special Edition #3 Hops to It
*Baby Sitter’s Club - Claudia’s Bad Joke (Renewal from last month)
*Baby Sitter’s Club - Claudia and the Sad Goodbye
Rainbow Magic and the Farm Animal Fairies: Debbie and the Ducklings
Pets Rule: My Kingdom of Darkness (Amazon)
*Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Soccer Scheme (Amazon)
*A to Z Mysteries: The Bald Bandit (Amazon)
My go to book shop is McCoy Kids Books, and there is a discount using my link. If it’s linked, I try to find it on Bookshop.org (which also sources from local book stores), target, and as a last resort, I might show the Amazon just for ease. As always, first check your local library!
